We’re proud to share that for the next two years we are officially sponsoring Joe Dowsing, a volunteer responder with Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS), helping him stay road-ready when our community needs him most.
SARS is a specialist medical charity supporting the East of England Ambulance Service at serious incidents. Their highly trained volunteers bring advanced clinical skills and specialist equipment straight to the patient, at the roadside or at home, essentially delivering Emergency Department-level care when every second counts.
Their clinical resource consists of a network of solo responders and mobile critical care teams who can respond to incidents across Suffolk and its adjacent counties. The responders are mobilised via the EEAST critical care desk, which monitors incoming 999 calls to the region.
SARS responders include anaesthetists, critical care paramedics and other clinicians with enhanced prehospital skills. These clinicians are authorised to carry specialist drugs and additional life-saving equipment not found on frontline ambulances. This means that SARS clinicians can provide an additional and advanced level of patient care that would not normally be available outside the hospital environment.
All the clinicians volunteer their time without charge and their medical care is provided at no cost to the patients they treat. The majority of clinicians have full time jobs and volunteer for SARS in their spare time with over 7,000 combined hours volunteered annually. Joe is a critical care paramedic and is both a solo and team responder.
Because SARS receives no central government funding, their lifesaving work depends entirely on the generosity of local businesses and individuals.
Our sponsorship helps cover the costs of keeping a responder operational, including:
- Specialist training: supporting ongoing development in advanced pre-hospital care.
- Life-saving equipment: from portable monitors to critical trauma and airway kits.
- Vehicle costs: maintenance and fuel to reach patients quickly and safely.
