Supporting Cardiff Communities: Peter Ridley Waste Systems’ Social Value Commitment to Cardiff Foodbank

Social value is about more than meeting a commitment, it is about making choices that create meaningful support for the communities connected to our work.

At Peter Ridley Waste Systems, we believe that delivering essential services should go hand in hand with creating a positive and lasting impact in the communities where we operate. As part of our Social Value commitment through our ongoing work with Cardiff City Council, we are proud to support Cardiff Foodbank; a charity we have chosen because of the vital difference it makes to individuals and families across Cardiff.

To provide reliable, year-round support, we have committed to making a quarterly monetary donation of £450 directly to Cardiff Foodbank for the next 2 years.  Totalling £3,600 in direct funding.

Why Cardiff Foodbank?

Cardiff Foodbank provides a vital safety net for individuals and families facing severe hardship across the city. Demand for emergency food support in Cardiff has more than doubled over the last decade, with many people pushed into crisis by low income, debt, benefit delays, and benefit changes. By supporting Cardiff Foodbank, we hope to contribute to a service that not only provides immediate help but also connects people with wider support when they need it most.

Cardiff Foodbank’s work is wide-ranging, combining immediate emergency support with partnerships and signposting that help people access longer-term guidance. Its core activities include:

  • Emergency Relief: Distributing 3-day emergency food and essential parcels directly to those in need.
  • Agency Referral Network: Partnering with over 190 local agencies and charities to ensure support reaches vulnerable residents quickly.
  • Wrap-Around Support: Signposting visitors to specialised services for long-term guidance and advice.
  • Business & Community Engagement: Connecting with local businesses to raise awareness and collaborating with community groups to campaign for lasting change in Cardiff.

By embedding Social Value into our contracts, we aim to ensure our work delivers benefits that extend beyond core operations and contribute directly to the communities we are operating in:

  • Predictable Funding: Quarterly cash donations allow Cardiff Foodbank to purchase specific, high-need supply items and plan their operational logistics with greater certainty.
  • Community Alignment: Working in close harmony with Cardiff City Council ensures our social investments directly target local needs.
  • Long-Term Impact: Sustained contributions help build stronger, more resilient local support networks throughout Cardiff.

We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Cardiff City Council and to support Cardiff Foodbank as part of our wider Social Value commitment. Public services have the greatest impact when organisations work together with purpose, and we are proud to play a small part in helping Cardiff Foodbank continue its essential work across the city.
